A senior Art Director once pointed out in a "meet and greet" at Saatchi Advertising that it was one thing to produce work where all parts of the project were defined and needed only to be edited as directed, it was quite another to have work done, where solutions needed to be offered. Such as art not supplied, or ambiguous directions requiring interpretation and suggestions beyond the realm of the directors expertise.

In one piece in a series done at Ogilvy for Motorola client, the desired art had the release of the talent, but the rights to the fashion could not be secured. It required a solution fitting the budget and the timing. This piece demonstrates creativity and sensitivity to fashion maintaining the look of high fashion, while altering enough to satisfy the problem of legal liability.

RELATIONSHIPS

The properties of two dimensional design, size/proportion, color are all dependent elements that relate to each other. But beyond the 2 dimensional art and all visual art, the same holds true for music. Notes, rhythm timing all play the same relationship dance that makes the world of art.

Artwork was prepared to be used in a series of ads for Ogilvy Mather client - IKEA.

These samples are three from a series shot by one photographer. The charge was to work with the photographer to create a warm consistent look with a touch of grain for effect.

The best way to retouch is to leverage photography. When there are multiple shots, you use the best of those to achieve the desired outcome. In the sample above, the additional lighting effect was done purely with photo editing. It is an example of what I call visual solutions.

Food Retouching and Color  requires a different emphasis, the subject needs to look "tasty" and "fresh". The artist needs to have a command of the visual queues that make the viewer believe the illusion of an appetizing image.
